Dr. Ashley Atkinson joined Lexington County School District Three as the new Superintendent in July of 2020. Dr. Atkinson came to the Panther Nation from Spartanburg School District Five where he served as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. Prior to this he worked as an Associate Principal for Curriculum and Instruction; Director of Accountability, Assessment and Research; Director of Guidance Services; mathematics and chemistry teacher; assistant football coach; wrestling coach and golf coach.
He has a Bachelor of Science degree (Mathematics with minors in Computer Science and Chemistry) from Francis Marion University. He has a Master of Library and Information Science degree from the University of South Carolina and a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
Dr. Atkinson has been married to his wife, Penny, for 35 years. Penny serves as the Director of Middle Level Instruction in Richland School District Two. Both Ashley and his wife are originally from Pageland, SC. They have two grown daughters, Jordan and Ruth, who both work as teachers.
Dr. Atkinson enjoys spending time with his family, reading, attending USC athletic events, baking, working on cars, attending plays and doing household remodeling projects.
