Lexington Three’s Kim Hendrix Named SC School Nurse Administrator of the Year

Lexington County School District Three’s Lead Nurse, Mrs. Kim Hendrix, has been named as South Carolina’s School Nurse Administrator of the Year! The Dee Dee Chewning School Nurse Administrator Award is presented annually by the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control and the SC Department of Education. The goal of the award is to publicly recognize a registered nurse functioning in a school nurse administrator/supervisor role who excels at administering and coordinating quality school nursing and school health programs. Nurse Hendrix was surprised with the announcement on Wednesday, April 26th during Batesburg-Leesville Middle School’s “School To Watch” redesignation ceremony.

In Lexington Three, Nurse Hendrix oversees all of the district’s health programs and operations including maintaining records and other government requirements, working with families of children who are having health problems, and assisting in the development of employee wellness programs. Prior to her role as Lead District Nurse, Mrs. Hendrix served students at Batesburg-Leesville Middle School for nine years as the School Nurse. In addition, she has coached students as part of the “Girls on the Run” program and served as a coach for the district’s cross country team for five seasons. She also works with students every afternoon in Batesburg-Leesville Elementary School’s Afterschool Program. Prior to coming to Lexington Three, Mrs. Hendrix worked as a paramedic with Lexington EMS and in a local hospital emergency room.

“Nurse Hendrix's passion and joy for others is what stands out the most. Kim always comments about how lucky she is to do what she loves every day. Her smile when she greets students and faculty is genuine and they all connect to it. She has earned their trust and respect because she treats everyone with kindness and love. I love how she throws herself into her work. She lets everyone know she cares about them and will do anything to help,” said Sharah Clark, Principal of Batesburg-Leesville Middle School. Mrs. Clark, along with the four school nurses in Lexington Three, nominated Nurse Hendrix for the award.

Nurse Hendrix is married to Jay and has two children–Cambey (who is married to Tim Roof) and Wyatt, who is a ninth grader at Batesburg-Leesville High School. She is a member of Wittenberg Lutheran Church and enjoys distance running in her spare time.
