“One hundred years from now it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like. But the world may be a little better because I was important in the life of a child.” --Unknown
We can all likely quote these exact words of an unknown writer, but I believe it would be more rewarding to simply live them by serving as a mentor in Lexington Three’s Panther Pals and Reading Buddies Program.
Lexington County School District Three has been very fortunate to continue the Panther Pals and Reading Buddies Mentoring Program for many years. The program serves children at Batesburg-Leesville Primary and Batesburg-Leesville Elementary Schools by allowing participating students to have an adult mentor to encourage them, assist them academically, and gently push them towards personal excellence.
I want to publicly thank the following mentors who have given their love and precious time for our children throughout the past school year: Teresa Blanton, Donna W. Boozer, Mike Bothwell, Donna L. Crapps, Lynn Goodman, Doris Hicks, Rosa Hix, Lisa W. Isenhower, Freida Israel, Stephen E. Padgett, Delores Peaster, Daylene Pitts, Darlene E. Simpkins, Eurlee Steadman, Tricia Wilburn, and Margaret McCulloch.
If you are interested in serving as a mentor during the 2023-2024 school year, please contact me, Elizabeth Phillips, by cell phone (803-960-1005) or email (ephillips@lex3.org). There will be a Returning Mentors and New Recruits Orientation Dinner on Wednesday, August 16th at Angelo’s Greek & Italian Restaurant in Batesburg-Leesville starting at 6 pm. In order to attend, you must RSVP with me by August 7th.
C. S. Lewis once stated, “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” Thank you in advance for considering making a difference in the life of a child here in Batesburg-Leesville.
